Deborah J. Dakota's first career as a journalist developed her ability to explain complex topics simply. As a young woman her dream was to make her living as a writer, which she did for while. Her skills began to expand when she got a job at a small magazine where she was kind of forced to add fundraising and marketing to the editing. While there, she was surprised to find she enjoyed raising money and promoting the magazine’s success more than writing.
That led to jobs as executive director of not-for-profit organizations. Which led to a job as a management consultant for a Congressionally funded network of housing and community development organizations. It was then she discovered that she loved creating and delivering original trainings.
When she went solo as a consultant and trainer in the 2000s she further developed her original workshops in marketing, fundraising and Board development. She honed her skills and presented live workshops to hundreds of people.
She found training was a great way to combine conceptual thinking (she went to grad school in sociology) with real-world results (her practical streak stems from being the daughter of entrepreneurs).
One popular piece of advice for trainers is that they should talk to people so simply that a sixth grader could understand. Deborah gives her students more credit and respect than that. Simple approaches don’t permanently solve complex problems. Yet, she is also adept at breaking ideas into digestible parts and presenting practical, actionable solutions.
Then in 2009, as she likes to say cryptically, life happened, and she had to look around for a way to make a living from home, without the travel she'd been doing consulting, and on her own schedule. All her life she’d had unusual experiences that she rarely talked about. In her 30s she started becoming aware of various abilities that grew after taking up serious study of Daoist meditation and qigong.
So, with great trepidation, she signed up for one of the national psychic call-in websites. She got great feedback…and her third career was launched.
After 13 years of doing psychic readings on all topics, she rebranded as a business psychic and launched The Psychic Advantage in 2022. It immediately took off.
Between 2009 and 2022, Deborah did more than 10,000 psychic readings. That’s why she calls her latest business Ten Thousand Sessions.
The high volume was thanks to those big national psychic websites, where subcontractors stand by to take whatever calls the company sends through. She had to deliver results to people regardless of their character or mood. She went from call to call, never knowing who would be on the other end. They might be nasty or nice, anxious or open, self-aware or in the habit of blaming everyone but themselves.
What she learned about handling clients isn't unique to psychic calls. It's universal. When customers pay for your time, they expect results. She applied what she'd learned from systems theory and all the healing work she'd done as she developed her own effective style for handling all kinds of clients.
She pretty much heard it all in those years … Every kind of problem … Every kind of person.
Now, she’s passing on that expertise to others.
Deborah is tough. She’s survived a lot that you won’t hear or read about.
She’s chosen to turn that into kindness, compassion and empathy. She’s smart and creative, too. The content of the Confidence with Clients courses reflects those qualities.
Perhaps ironically ... or perhaps naturally ... or perhaps because of those silly Daoist masters ... she laughs more now than ever before.
To be clear: This is not a program for psychics. It is for professionals who use one-on-one meetings (just once or over time) to help clients achieve some kind of transformation in their lives.
Deborah's course outcomes are not short-term fixes but longer-term shifts that can actually transform lives.
That’s how she learned.
That’s how she teaches.
Take your business to the next level.
